Windowss Vista build 5365 Reviews

As most people will of heard, Windowss Vista build 5365 was released to testers on Saturday, this build has not appeared on MSDN yet and has been tagged as an internal, so the chances of it being posted there are slim.Initial reports are good, this build appears to be more stable and the dreaded UAP (User Account Protection) behavior has changed, allowing more simple tasks to be done without having to click away 3 different dialogs. There are a few reviews on the web, I've linked to one which I thought was quite good."After many falsepieces of information over the last few days regarding vista plus theanger being expressed by many Vista beta testers, Microsoft havefinally released what everyone has been waiting for, a new build. Itcomes in the shape of 5365, the same build Bill Gates showed off inJapan with screenshots being posted on WinFuture.de. I have finally gotaround to downloading and installing the latest vista build. In thisreview I will look at what has changed the improvements and anythingelse I feel like mentioning." Windows Live Voicemail: The ultimate answering machine

Windows Live Voicemail: The ultimate answering machine Bill Gates is working on his prophecy, trying to make it our new reality. It’s not only the Microsoft Origami PC which is a match-up between a Nintendo DS and a notebook ― by the way, Samsung is about to introduce it on May 1st, 2006, according to Beta News. It’s more than that, it’s about the media convergence:Windows Live is going to offer a voice mail aggregation service. With this, you can centralize every missed calls, garner every voice messages from home, office, and mobile phone into one unique place.Messages would be stored in one the MP3, WAV and WMA audio formats. But you can change on the fly. Audio files could then be put on a multimedia player or stored forever. The voicemail aggregation is part from the now unveiled Microsoft Live Drive plan. Microsoft is planning to use its server farms to offer anyone huge amounts of online storage of digital data, reported Fortune magazine. Google also takes on the hyperdrive idea. But, somehow, they would figure out how to tweak their search engine to organize your voice data.

Some Mac Resellers Pre-Installing Windows XP

Some Mac Resellers Pre-Installing Windows XP Several Apple resellers are marketing Intel-based Mac desktops and portables with Windows XP pre-installed, but Apple Computer Inc. reiterated that it has no intention of following their lead. The resellers, which include a small Utah-based company and a major California computer online warehouse, are bundling Windows XP with standard Macintosh models, and pre-installing the Microsoft operating system using the Boot Camp dual-boot application that Apple released earlier this month. ExperCom is touting a $2,029 MacBook Pro with Windows XP Home pre-loaded; the price is just $35 above the Apple price for the portable. Meanwhile, ClubMac.com, MacMall.com, and OnSale.com -- all three part of Torrance, Calif.-based PC Mall -- list MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac mini machines with XP Home or XP Professional installed. Windows XP Home bumps up the usual price of the computer by $100, while XP Professional costs an additional $150. Retail prices for Windows XP Home are in the $190-198 range. A sales representative from MacMall told TechWeb that users can select the size of the disk partition assigned to Windows XP during the ordering process. But there are limits to what the resellers will do. "We don't support Windows XP - and neither does Apple," ExperCom said on its site. "We'll install it for you, but, hey, we're Mac people, so we can't help answer Windows questions!" Lengthy disclaimers, primarily about Boot Camp's beta status, also appeared on the ClubMac, MacMall, and OnSale sites.

Photo2Search: Explore the Real World via Camera Phone

Microsoft this week revealed that it is at work on a way to search the Internet using photos captured by cell phone cameras. So rather than typing in an Internet search query, someone can e-mail Microsoft a photo of what they're searching for. Photo2Search, as Microsoft calls the nascent feature, returns Web pages either with information about the objects in the photo, or sites that contain similar images. Microsoft is the latest example of how search engines continuously try to expand Internet search's utility, whether by using cell phone text messages to make inquiries as most search engines now allow, or using photos as is the case at Microsoft. News of Photo2Search comes a few days after Google, which views Microsoft as a chief rival, learned it received a patent for an alternative way to search the Internet using spoken words, rather than written text. Microsoft Techfest - New Wonder

It might just be the quintessential Seattle gadget. Researchers from Microsoft have created an old-fashioned mariners compass that uses the Global Positioning System and an embedded database of Starbucks stores to literally point to the coffee retailer's nearest Seattle-area location. One of the things it doesn't do is tell you how far away that location is. But the researchers have an answer for that, too. "This is Seattle," said Raman Sarin, one of the researchers on the project. "You're not going to have to walk far." The Coffee Compass was one of the projects on display Wednesday at the annual Microsoft Research TechFest. But don't be misled by that device's seemingly whimsical nature. For the most part, this is serious business -- in some cases signaling the potential direction of the products Microsoft brings to market.

Interestingly, the analysis showed that IM is most heavily used in the Latin American region, with 64 percent of the online population using IM in February. The MSN Messenger application has the strongest penetration worldwide, with 61 percent of worldwide IM users utilizing the application in February. MSN Messenger is also dominant in Latin America, reaching more than 90 percent of IM users, and in Europe and Asia Pacific, reaching more than 70 percent of IM users in each region. North America is the most competitive IM market, with MSN Messenger, AOL/Aim and Yahoo! Messenger each garnering between 27 percent and 37 percent of IM users in February. Additional IM programs are gaining ground, especially outside of North America. Skype is now used by 14 percent of IM users worldwide, although this application is used by only 3 percent of the online population in North America. Skype appears most popular in Asia Pacific, reaching 26 percent of the region’s IM user population.

Office File Formats Announced

Office File Formats Announced Microsoft have announced the file formats for Office 2007, the next version of Microsoft Office which is due to be released in early 2007. The most notable change is the obvious visual change in file names. No longer based around 3 characters (e.g. .doc), they are now 4 letters long. Word = .docxExcel = .xlsxPowerpoint = .pptxThe naming change reflects the new xml technology being used by the files. We can but help think it reflects a desperate need to show that things have changed with Office 2007.
